Symbolism
Maroon and white are the colors associated with the Army Medical Department. The cross is a traditional symbol of medical aid and assistance. The white cross is divided in allusion to the various specialties necessary in the treatment of combat injuries. The green of the disc is a reference to the famous bluegrass of Kentucky and the star relates to the unit's home base, the capital city of Frankfort.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 23 January 1980.
